Joseph Stevens is a first-year Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artist in 2026–27.
Described as expressive and sensitive, Mr. Stevens is an opera pianist, recitalist, organist, and vocal coach. He moved to the United States from Pakistan when he was seven and has pursued music ever since.
After earning his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of New Hampshire, Mr. Stevens began his collaborative studies at Carnegie Mellon University and recently graduated from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with his Artist Diploma in Opera Coaching. As an opera pianist, he was an indispensable member of numerous productions, scenes programs, and outreach performances in which he coached, rehearsed, and performed. This past summer, he was a Coaching Fellow at Wolf Trap Opera, assisting on La Cenerentola and performing scenes and arias with Studio and Filene Artists.
Mr. Stevens has had the pleasure of working under and alongside industry professionals such as Marie-France Lefebvre, Kirill Kuzmin, Lisa Hasson, Gary Wedow, Robin Guarino, Jose Maria Condemi. He has also participated in several new opera workshops by composers such as Laura Kaminsky and Christopher Tin through Opera Fusion: New Works.
In addition to opera, Mr. Stevens is an avid vocal recitalist. He has performed in early music ensembles on the harpsichord, organ, and fortepiano. He has recorded large cycles such as Schubert’s Winterreise and programmed and performed private recitals across Cincinnati.
