Pittsburgh Opera has created a promotion called ‘20-something Tuesday’ to attract new young opera fans.
The promotion allows people in their 20’s to buy $20 tickets to the Tuesday, November 8th performance of Richard Strauss’s Salome at the Benedum.
When ordering tickets, patrons can choose to sit in either the balcony or the main floor. They will receive the best seats available the day of the show. This can result in a significant savings over the regular ticket price. Tickets can be picked up at Will Call at the Benedum starting at 5:00 PM that Tuesday.
“While single tickets to all our Benedum operas start at just $12 for people of all ages, this is a way to allow younger opera fans to sit closer to the action more affordably,” says Pittsburgh Opera General Director Christopher Hahn. “There are a lot of 20-something people working in and near downtown Pittsburgh”, he continued. “We hope they will stay downtown after work, have dinner at one of the many wonderful nearby restaurants, and come enjoy an amazing performance at the Benedum.”
Based on the play by Oscar Wilde, Salome reimagines the biblical story of King Herod, his stepdaughter Salome and John the Baptist (Jochanaan). Salome provides one interpretation of why exactly Salome forced Herod to give her John the Baptist’s severed head on a silver platter. Salome is a one-act, 100 minute opera, sung in German with English supertitles are projected above the stage.
The performance starts at 7:00 PM, and, with Pennsylvania polling stations closing at 8:00 PM, Pittsburgh Opera reminds ticket buyers to vote before coming to the opera.
