Drew Comer is a first-year Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artist in 2026-27. This season, his roles include Ceprano in Rigoletto, Witch 3 and Banquo in Working for the MacBeths, and Duke of Verona in Romeo & Juliet. 

Praised for his "clear enunciation and powerful steady voice," by Opera Canada, American bass Drew Comer is an accomplished operatic, concert, and recital singer. Most recently, he returned to The Santa Fe Opera where he sang the role of Christian X in the American premiere of Tobias Picker and Aryeh Lev Stollman’s Lili Elbe. He made his house debut at Sarasota Opera in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah (Elder Ott) in March 2026, where he also covered the role of Colline (La bohème). Comer made his house debut at Indianapolis Opera as Balthazar (Amahl and the Night Visitors) in December 2025. Comer was recently featured as the Second Soldier in Strauss’ Salome in a recording project with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería in Mexico City. In the summer of 2025, he returned for his second season as an Apprentice Artist at The Santa Fe Opera, where he covered the roles of Benoît/Alcindoro (La bohème) and Antonio (Le nozze di Figaro) and appeared in the choruses of Le nozze di Figaro and Rigoletto, as well as Talpa (Il tabarro) in the Apprentice Scenes Program. He is a recipient of the Santa Fe Opera Encouragement Award and was named an Encouragement Award winner at the Indianapolis District of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition in January 2025.

In 2024, he spent his first summer at The Santa Fe Opera as an Apprentice Artist, where he sang in productions of La traviata (Flora’s Servant (house debut), Doctor Grenville (cover)), Don Giovanni (Il Commendatore (cover)), Der Rosenkavalier (Waiter 2, Lackey 4 (cover)), and the world premiere of Gregory Spears’ The Righteous, as well as Pistola (Falstaff) in the Apprentice Scenes program.

Comer joined Cedar Rapids Opera in the summer of 2023 as a Smith Young Artist, where he performed the role of Simone in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. At Indiana University he performed the role of a Guard in the world premiere of Shulamit Ran’s Anne Frank, the operatic adaptation of the famous diary. In 2022, Comer received an Encouragement Award from the Idaho-Montana District of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition and was a prize winner at the Orpheus National Vocal Competition.

Other performance highlights include performances of Il Commendatore (Don Giovanni), the bass solo in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, scene performances from Don Carlo, La forza del destino, Billy Budd, and Die Entführung aus dem Serail, and a recital performance of Schubert’s Schwanengesang, which was lauded for his “musical understanding and technical proficiency.” Comer made his European debut in 2022 as Simone in Gianni Schicchi and his Canadian debut in 2018 as Masetto in Don Giovanni and Seneca in L’incoronazione di Poppea.
