Maya Davis is a first-year Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artist in 2026-27. This season, her roles include Giovanna in Rigoletto, Rosmira in Partenope, and Florinda in Working for the MacBeths.
Maya is from South Bend, Indiana. She recently completed her Master of Music at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she studied with Russell Thomas, and was an Apprentice Artist at the Santa Fe Opera this past summer.
Maya is a 2024–25 Indiana District Winner of the Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition. In fall 2024, she performed the role of Aurelia Browder in the orchestral workshop of Jasmine Barnes' She Who Dared at American Lyric Theater and then covered the role in the opera's world premiere at Chicago Opera Theater the following summer. In summer 2024, she was a Frank R. Brownell III Apprentice Artist at Des Moines Metro Opera, where she covered the roles of Ida Mae McDonald and Florence McKeller in the world premiere of Damien Jeter and Lila Palmer’s American Apollo. Additional credits with the Indiana University Jacobs Opera Theater include the title role in Carmen, Federico García Lorca in Ainadamar, Second Witch in Dido and Aeneas, and Stéphano in Roméo et Juliette.
In 2022, Maya participated in LA Opera's HBCU Career Comprehensive. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Jackson State University, where she studied with Phyllis Lewis-Hale.
