Andy Berry, bass |
Andy Berry is a second-year Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artist in 2017-18. He is scheduled to perform as Angelotti and Jailer/Tosca, and Antonio/The Marriage of Figaro.
Mr. Berry received a Master of Music in Voice (Opera) from the Yale School of Music in May 2016, where he performed the roles of Don Quichotte/Don Quichotte, Bartolo/Le nozze di Figaro, Simone/Gianni Schicchi, and Peter Quince/A Midsummer Night's Dream. Passionate about the dramatic possibilities of concert work, this year he premiered as bass soloist in Haydn's Creation with the Yale Glee Club and in Mozart's Requiem with the Vietnam Opera & Ballet Orchestra and Singapore's Metropolitan Festival Orchestra. In January 2016, he won second place in the Metropolitan Opera National Council's New England Regional Final.
In Pittsburgh Opera's 2016-2017 season, Mr. Berry performed as the Marchese D’Obigny/La traviata, as both a Cappadocian and Fifth Jew in Salome, as Isacio/Richard the Lionheart, and as a Mandarin/Turandot. In 2015 with Central City Opera, he sang the roles of Barone Douphol/La traviata, Dr. Carrasco/Man of La Mancha, and Montesinos/Don Quichotte chez la Duchesse. He was awarded the company's first Robert Orth Award. Favorite past roles include Seneca/L'incoronazione di Poppea with the Yale Baroque Opera Project and Figaro/Le nozze di Figaro with the Opera Theater of Yale College. Other past awards include the David L. Kasdon Award for one outstanding singer in the Yale School of Music and top prize in the Dell'Arte Opera Ensemble's Osgood Participation & Performance Award (read Yale's press release).
Mr. Berry earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology (Neuroscience) cum laude at Yale University, where he also directed the Yale Whiffenpoofs, assistant conducted the Yale Glee Club, and made appearances on FOX's Glee and NBC's America's Got Talent.
