Jeremy Harr is a second-year Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artist in 2021-22. His roles this season included Speaker in The Magic Flute, The Brother in The Rose Elf, and Zuniga in Carmen.
In the 2020-21 season, he played Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, Cadmus/Somnus in Semele.
Harr’s 2019/20 season began with performances as the King of Scotland (Ariodante) with the Maryland Opera Studio. Harr was in rehearsals for his final production with the Maryland Opera Studio as the Badger/Priest/Harašta (The Cunning Little Vixen), when his season was uprooted by the Covid-19 epidemic and the production was cancelled. Additionally, Harr was scheduled to return to Wolf Trap Opera in Summer 2020 to perform Benoit/Alcindoro (La Boheme) and cover Gremin (Eugene Onegin), but the company was forced to cancel their productions. Wolf Trap Opera was able to invite their scheduled artists to a modified 2020 summer season, however, where Harr performed Benoit/Alcindoro in their concert, Love: Surrender, as well as several scenes in the Studio Spotlight concert. Both concerts were broadcast online.
Harr’s 2018/19 season included performances as Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Angel 2 (The Road of Promise), Jimmy (Mahagonny Songspiel), and covering Frank Maurrant (Street Scene), with the Maryland Opera Studio. Additionally, Harr performed in the world premiere of Elisabeth Mehl Greene’s Hajar, also with the Maryland Opera Studio. In Summer 2019, Harr made his debuts with the Washington Opera Society as Ramfis (Aida), and with Wolf Trap Opera as a Studio Artist, performing Lackey (Ariadne auf Naxos) and Officer (Il barbiere di Siviglia), as well covering Death (Der Kaiser von Atlantis) and Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia).
A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory, Harr performed extensively with the Oberlin Opera Theater, including Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Pandolfe (Cendrillon), Collatinus (The Rape of Lucretia), and Mamma Agathe in Donizetti’s Viva la mamma. Harr has also appeared with Opera Saratoga covering Mr. Kofner and Assan (The Consul), and the House Quartet Bass in the American premiere of Gareth Williams’s Rocking Horse Winner, Miami Classical Music Festival as Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) and Superintendent Budd (Albert Herring), and Oberlin in Italy as Dulcamara (L’elisir d’amore) and Simone (Gianni Schicchi).
For the 2019/20 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Harr was named a winner in the Capitol District and 3rd place in the Middle-Atlantic Region. Harr completed his undergraduate studies at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and his graduate studies with the Maryland Opera Studio at the University of Maryland. He is a student of internationally renowned bass-baritone Kevin Short.
Mr. Harr's Residency is generously sponsored by Robert J. and Sharon E. Sclabassi.
