Tyler Zimmerman as Masetto in Mozart's Don Giovanni. Pittsburgh in the Round said he gave "the most sizeable display of his talents to date" on opening night and demonstrated "palpable" chemistry with Zerlina (Antonia Botti-Lodovico).
Tyler Zimmerman is a second-year Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artist in 2019-20. He is scheduled to perform Masetto/Don Giovanni, Melisso/Alcina, and Zuniga/Carmen and the Carmen Student Matinee.
In the 2018-19 season, he performed Commissioner/Madama Butterfly and Colline/La bohème.
2010 National Finalist in the Classical Singer Community’s competition where his voice was described as “beautiful and naturally resonant” as well as a “vibrant [and] mature sound,” bass-baritone Tyler Zimmerman has only just begun his musical career.
In the 2017-2018 season, Mr Zimmerman completed his final year of his Master’s studies at the Curtis Institute of Music where he performed the role of Sam in the world premiere of a newly staged version of A Quiet Place directed by Daniel Fish and conducted by Corrado Rovaris. Mr. Zimmerman returns to the Chautauqua Institute for his 7th summer where he will sing the roles of Dr. Dulcamara/L’elisir d’amore and Escamillo/Carmen.
In the 2016-2017 season Mr. Zimmerman continued his studies at the Curtis Institute of Music where he was seen as Edward Teller/Doctor Atomic in a new production led by R.B. Schlather. He will also made his Albany Symphony debut singing as the Baritone Soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. Mr. Zimmerman spent his summer in Santa Fe as an Apprentice Artist with the Santa Fe Opera where he covered the role of Melisso/Alcina in a production by David Alden and conducted by Harry Bickett.
In the 2015-2016 season Mr. Zimmerman sang the roles of Colline/La bohème, Bretigny/Manon, Figaro/Le nozze di Figaro with Curtis Opera Theatre and the role of La Roche/Capriccio with Opera Philadelphia in a co-production with Curtis Opera Theatre. Mr. Zimmerman returned to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (First Soldier/Salome) and the Chautauqua Music Festival (Der Sprecher/Die Zauberfloete, Monterone/Rigoletto).
In the 2014-15 season Mr. Zimmerman covered the roles of Don Geronio/Il turco in Italia and Collatinus/The Rape of Lucretia and the sang the role of Antonio/Le Nozze di Figaro in a production led by Stephen Wadsworth at the Juilliard School. In June, Mr. Zimmerman joined the Detroit Symphony Orchestra as Sciarrone/Tosca alongside Patricia Racette and James Valenti and returned to the Chautauqua Music Festival to sing Il Re/Ariodante and Alcindoro/La bohème.
In the 2013-14 season Mr. Zimmerman sang the title role in Le Nozze di Figaro as well as Zaretsky/Eugene Onegin at the Juilliard School. Mr. Zimmerman was also seen as Le Bailli/Werther and Rambaldo/La Rondine at the Chautauqua Music Festival. He also sang the Bass Soloist in a summer performance of Handel’s Messiah with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra and appeared in recital with Mikael Eliasen.
In the 2012-2013 season, Mr. Zimmerman sang the role of Don Ottavio/Le Donne Curiose at Juilliard. He returned to Chautauqua again to sing the role of Thierry/the Dialogues of the Carmelites and cover the role of Leporello/Don Giovanni. Mr. Zimmerman was also seen in recital with Ricky Ian Gordon.
Mr. Zimmerman is equally comfortable on the recital stage appearing alongside such great recitalist’s as Dalton Baldwin, Mikael Eliasen, and Ricky Ian Gordon. Mr. Zimmerman is no stranger to modern works as well, having taken part in the North American premiere of Peter Maxwell Davies’ Kommilitonen! at the Juilliard School along with extensive work with Ricky Ian Gordon during the summers of 2012 and 2014. He has also appeared in public masterclasses with Dolora Zajick, Craig Rutenberg, Christine Brewer, Sherrill Milnes, Daniel Ferro, Richard Bonynge and many others.
